2024 Top Trends In Stone: A New Emerging Trend

  • Warm tones have been emerging as a popular, go-to look

  • The use of different coloured mortar joints can alter the look of the stone

  • Linear running stones are here to stay

Halfway through the year there seems to be some new colour trends emerging. As previously mentioned in our first Top Trends In Stone blog, the neutral tones are still extremely popular with white and cream tones leading the pack. What we have also been noticing at StoneRox is the want for beige and soft brown tones. There seems to be a slight shift to these more Earth tones from the greys, whites, and blacks that have been so sought after for the last few years. This is something to keep an eye on moving forward as these colour shifts do happen every few years and we may be at the tail end of the current colour demand. We have seen our walnut and telluride really pick up in popularity which have not been desired or discussed nearly as much in previous years.

Another item to take into consideration when choosing your stone is the colour of the mortar joint you will use. The mortar colour will alter the look of the stone and can drastically change the outcome of a project. What has been extremely popular this year with the white and cream coloured stone is a white mortar joint. The white joints (as you can see with our FDL Country fireplace pictured) really lighten up the project and seem to showcase the stone and maintain the desired look people are looking to achieve. StoneRox colours that really blend well with a white mortar joint are our Everest from our manufactured stone veneer line and our Fond Du Lac Country and Columbia from our natural stone veneer line.

On the other hand, with dark stones, a dark/black coloured mortar joint really looks sharp. It accents the dark stone well. StoneRox colours that look great with a dark mortar joint is our graphite from our manufactured stone veneer line or our Oak Harbour and Raven from our natural stone veneer line.

Linear running patterns for modern homes still seem to be desired the most from consumers as we see our ridge stone (pictured) and lime stone really being talked about from our manufactured stone veneer line. That being said, traditional looking stones with more profile and irregular shapes like our Ledge Cobble Stone and Cobble Stone will always be popular as they are timeless looks that will never go out of style.

That said, it really matters what vibe you're going with for your project. Whether you want a modern, sleek feel or that rustic, timeless look, we have a stone to fit your vision. Also, don’t forget to take any other claddings into consideration when choosing your stone, as you want your exterior and interior to work together seamlessly. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to StoneRox.
